Lady Adrienne had woken promptly at seven o'clock, just as she did every morning. She was dressed in by her maid of the bedchamber in a light blue gown. It was quite a chilly day, and Adrienne immediately regretted not dressing warmer. She tried not to let it get to her though, and attempted to enjoy her morning walk along the lake shore. The grounds were unnaturally quiet, absent of courtiers. Still, it was a nice change to escape the false smiles and compliments of men and women seeking only to advance themselves in the world. She did not for a moment envy the royal family or the king. It must be very tiresome, not knowing who was really your friend or who you could trust.
Adrienne's maid Marie walked next to her. Now, really, Marie have stayed several steps behind her mistress, but Adrienne and Marie had an unusual relationship. They were friends, for lack of better word. Though they were never in the same circle of people, in those rare times they were alone they behaved as though one of them was not the daughter of a very powerful duke, and the other her lowly fourth cousin who by the grace of the Duke of Savoy was allowed to attend to his daughter at court.
If ever Adrienne wished to go somewhere alone, Marie followed as her companion to stop wagging tongues that would love to tear apart her spotless reputation.
"How much farther today, my Lady?" Marie asked, a tone of exhaustion audible in her voice. They had been walking for the better part of an hour, and Marie was not used to the exercise. Most ladies were very rarely active.
"Come now, Marie, are you tired already?" Adrienne teased the girl playfully. "We really must get you into shape, it's not healthy."

Vera had been awake since six that early morning. She had gotten up and let her maid dress her for the day. Which for Vera would be riding a horse until her legs hurt. Ridding two times though the forest she ended up at the lake.
Ridding around the lake she smiled quite glad that no one had followed her. She almost always had one or two body guards but lucky for her she had managed to escape the men. She needed sometime to think about this betrothal. Sure she hadn't met him yet but she was still nervous all the same.
Getting off the horse she didn't notice Lady Adrienne or Marie until they were close to her, "Oh! Hello I didn't see either one of you." She smiled ever so slightly. Embarrassed that she had interrupted their walk.

Adrienne and Marie curtsied low as the Princess approached. "Good morning, Your Highness," they said in unison. Marie took a few courteous steps back and said, "My Lady Adrienne, Shall I return to the castle?"
Adrienne laughed and said, "Yes, Marie, you may go eat breakfast." Marie was almost always hungry and all the walking must have been torture. "So long as the princess will put up with me. It wouldn't be prudent for me to be out alone. Nor is it for you, ma'am," Adrienne said almost scoldingly. She really shouldn't be reprimanding a member of the royal family, but it wasn't as if she wanted her country's princess to be thought of as anything less than chaste.

Vera blushed softly and smiled, "Good morning to you all as well." She watched the interaction between Adrienne and Marie with a small smile. All of Vera's chamber maids were so much older than her. She was twenty-one while they were all in their late forties.
"Of course I will put up with you, I have no choice do I?" Sarcasm laced her voice and a giggle escaped her lips. "Besides I am most certain that the guards will be going crazy trying to find me in an hour or when ever they wake up." She smiled knowing that Adrienne was thinking of her reputation. Vera's spotless reputation not something anyone wanted ruined unless they were just a peasant who had little to know reputation.
